Lake of the Woods is a beautiful and rare high mountain lake. Lake of the Woods is one of just a few natural lakes in Southern Oregon suitable for multi use recreation. The lake is not on the reservoir system so our water level only fluctuates a couple of feet per year. The lake used to have a natural outflow at the North end that has been altered by man numerous times in the last 100 years. Currently the Forest Service is studying the lake levels and the drainage issues that swirl around the use of the Great Meadow in the winter by Skiers and snowmobilers. The project to restore the meadow to a more natural state is ongoing and many many people are involved in the process to help decide what needs to be done. The ideal situation for Lake of the Woods & the Great Meadow is to be returned to a more natural state that allows for both winter use and a wet meadow in the spring and early summer. As the meadow drys out each summer we see the larger game starting to return to graze on the abundant grass and forage.

Species of fish in Lake of the Woods: German Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Large & Small Mouth Bass, Kokanee Salmon, Yellow Perch, Catfish, Crappie, and probably a few others.
